Fund teacher training, school zone safety, and community awareness to save thousands of Kilimanjaro students
We’re excited to share an opportunity to deepen our impact for children in Tanzania by supporting our longtime partner, First Eye Limited, in a new phase of their proven road safety initiative. With your help, we can make 2025 a safer year for thousands of young students in Kilimanjaro.

Capacity Building for Teachers & School Zone Safety Enhancements
Their 2025 initiative aims to equip 100 teachers across 100 schools with the knowledge and tools they need to promote road safety for children. This project is vital: too many young children are at risk due to limited awareness of safety regulations and a lack of basic protective infrastructure near schools. Working with First Eye, we will directly reach 5,000 children who use motorcycles to get to school each day, many without adult supervision—a common practice that puts them in harm’s way.
Our goal is to address this through:
Teacher Training: Teachers will learn the local road safety laws to educate students and reinforce safe practices, like ensuring children under nine don’t ride on motorcycles without an adult.
School Zone Safety Measures: Installing speed bumps and roadblocks around schools to protect children as they arrive and leave.
Awareness Campaigns: Local radio broadcasts and community advertisements will educate parents, boda boda riders (motorcyclists), and the wider community about safe transportation practices.
Why It Matters
In 2023, Kilimanjaro saw several road accidents involving young children, often due to a lack of supervision and infrastructure. Children as young as four are frequently transported by motorcycle without adult oversight, and this project will help curb such risky practices by instilling a culture of safety within schools and the community.
Budget & Timeline
This project requires funds for essential resources, including road safety workshops, infrastructure enhancements, and community outreach. Scheduled to roll out over eight months, this effort will establish long-lasting safety practices and create a measurable reduction in child-involved accidents.
